FAQ

What is APEX MAX SOBER LIVING?

Apex Max Sober Living offers a Level 2 Sober Living program. While our HQ is in Sandy Springs, we operate from different locations. Our main home is in Roswell, GA and we are in the process of getting it fully certified and our goal is to get it GARR certified by the 1st Q of 2024. We offer transitional housing to selected candidates who have no further need for rehabilitation or conventional sober living programs.

What do you offer in your residences?

All our residences offer doubles and singles. We do not have people on couches or crowd three people in a room. We have the lowest density of most sober livings in Atlanta. We strive to be the best house of the neighborhoods we are part of. No bunk beds. More than half of our beds are full size or Queen size beds. We have YouTubeTV and high speed internet in all of our residences. Selected residences have premium cable channels such as HBO, NFL Sunday Ticket, Shudder, Showtime and access to other premium services. Laundry is provided in every unit. TVs are usually 50 -65 inch 4K HD sets in the main living room. Some bedrooms may have TVs.

What can i expect during my stay

We are a very laidback program when it comes to interaction between staff and residents. While we are coed and are laidback compared to many other programs, we will enforce restrictions in the way you mingle if we notice any troubling signs. While our standard offerings are better than other sober livings in our price range, we offer many rewards and incentives that no other program in Atlanta offers as often as we do. For you to take advantage of them, we have to deem your effort worthy of such incentives. We have a high staff to resident ratio and we still end up spending a lot of our spare time helping residents- past and present. So we expect residents to pull their weight and show initiative. If you show enough initiative and have a very good attitude, you will not find a more rewarding program locally.

Do you have Counselors?

Our house managers, Al Wunder, and Leann Burton are on the verge of being certified as a recovery coach and currently sets up appointments with our residents.

Are we allowed to work in Any job of our choice?

For the most part, yes. However, if you work in an environment conducive to high risk behavior, we may put a restriction on that based on how we assess where you are in the recovery process.

Do we have to live in your residences to be part of your program?

Not necessarily. We do require you stay in one of our residences to be part of the main Sober Living Program mandated by most court rulings and overseen by most probation officers. There are occasionally some situations where the program participant is allowed to finish their program at a residence of his or her choice, usually at home because of a family related situation that cannot be avoided. In such cases, we will work with the probation officer to make sure it is allowed. Also, you will be required to activate LIFE 360 on your phone all the time and be reachable by phone at all times. You will also be required to submit to random drug screens just like the residents of the program. Your residence will also need to be clear of any substances not permitted in our residences.

what is your transition housing program?

Rules are more relaxed and these are separate apartments from the main sober living residences. It is meant to help our more stable graduates find solid housing choices after graduation and for those who still want a connection to the program even if they no longer wish to take part in every aspect of the program. We will still drug screen residents in this program and do housing checks. But the other sober living rules are relaxed.

Do you allow couples?

Yes and no. Couples will be admitted to the program. However, they will not be allowed to stay together in the same room initially. Also, if there are any signs of dysfunction or codependency observed, we will reexamine the status of each person in the couple and take action accordingly. However, if you do well in the sober living program, we may consider you eligible as a couple for the transition housing phase after you graduate from the program.

A lot of sober living homes tend to get messy. i don’t know about this group living thing.

We have strict rules about cleanliness. We own most of our housing. So we have the ability to jump on maintenance issues faster than most sober livings. We have the discretion to keep upgrading the quality of our housing. If you have good construction skills, we may even come up with internal projects to get some weekly fees knocked off your bill.

what about meetings?

We have two mandatory house meetings each week where we talk about what is going on in the program and any recovery related issues. Right now, the Monday 7pm meeting is more recovery oriented. The Thursday 7pm meeting is more property and general living related. We also have an in-house 12 step meeting that counts as one of the required 2 meetings a week. While we do not have a bus for transportation to external meetings, we allow residents to choose meetings of their choice and carpool with other residents to attend such meetings to meet their weekly requirements. We mandate you attend at least two external 12-step meetings at the venue of your choice. Some candidates might be required to attend more based on their situation. If a drug court or court order mandates a certain level of attendance , we will make sure you attend those meetings.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: There are online meetings by zoom. We are also in the process of formulating coursework, exercises, coaching to go through your recovery.

What kind of drug screens are conducted?

We have 16 panel urine based instant drug screens. These cover all kinds of drugs such as opiates, meth, benzos, and even alcohol. Specimens may be sent to the lab for further confirmation or evaluation such as kratom or synthetics of any kind. We test even our staff.

Are those real pictures of your residences?

Not the one you see on the home page. That is a template we use for the home page. We are going to upload real pictures soon under our photos/gallery section. However, our goal is to get some premium residences sometime in 2020. However, we take pride in our residences being a better quality than our typical sober living house in Atlanta. Our facebook page has some candid pictures.

what are your fees?

For an acceptance letter, it is $100. This fees will be applied as credit towards your admission fees but is non refundable if you choose not to go through with the admission. The standard admission fees is $350(not including weekly fees). We may offer a slightly discounted rate based on the candidate and where they are in their recovery stage. That can be assessed during an in person interview. The standard weekly fees is typically $275-310 for a double. Singles are available from $310-375 a week. These fees include cleaning supplies and common stuff such as paper towels and toilet paper for the houses. Fees for our non residential and transition housing programs are less and vary based on the kind of needs the candidate have. You can pay via Zelle, Venmo, Cashapp, Cash, Check, or Credit Card. Credit Card payments incur a 3% surcharge.

In addition to the standard benefits you get that most sober living in our price range will not offer, we also have great partnerships with area companies and organizations who donate good perks to a selection of residents. Usually, if you put in the effort, it will be recognized and you will get to experience anything from free dinners at nice restaurants once in a while to outings at recreational spots such as top golf or bowling. You are not paying merely towards a bed in the program but an experience of networking with folks who aim higher than the typical sober living program. When it comes to free food at our Thursday meetings and common supplies provided free of charge, you are getting $30 worth of free stuff each week at the very minimum. In return, we ask you to be highly motivated.

Do you offer Scholarships, Financial aid, or take insurance?

Currently, if you are not eligible for any scholarships, and your rate is 300 or higher, we may offer a discount of $25-40 a week as long as you are in good standing with the program and meet certain qualifications. We partner with other non profits for aid for our residents. The aid packages can range anywhere from a week’s fees to half of your fees. One current aid program is open for single men with kids under 25 where they will be eligible for half off their fees as long as they attend a special program whiich includes more meetings, certification programs in a career path of their choice, and financial literacy classes. We do not take insurance currently. But we are working on adding to the program to be eligible for such reimbursements in the 3rd or 4th Q of 2024.

do we have to fill up an application?

Not at this time. However, you can send us your info such as name, reason for applying to apexmaxga@gmail.com. Or you can call us at one of the numbers in the contact page.

do you throw all of our belongings out if we get discharged?

Not for 24 hours. We can make no guarantees. However, we pride ourselves as being much better than other sober living programs in treating your belongings with respect in case you have to leave the program. When you are discharged, we will go over a plan to make your exit as drama free as possible. However, our priority is to keep your sentimental items and important items such as documents, family pictures, etc. intact regardless of your balance. The rest are also not ignored, but if your balance is not paid in full we can not put in extra effort and resources to store them very safely. We may use discretion to charge a storage fee if you want us to store your belongings for more than a day.
